Easy or simple upgrades
Ever wanted to get a little bit more from your avionics but don't have the budget to get a full refit? Allow us to introduce our hand picked selection of Easy or Simple Upgrades.
Firstly, what counts as an easy or simple upgrade? Well for us these upgrades are where you can upgrade a unit to a better one using all of the existing trays, mountings and wiring (easy), or where minimal change is required (simple). The majority of these upgrades shouldn't take more then a couple of days to fit. So without further ado, let us introduce to you our pick of the bunch:
Easy upgrades
Upgrade From: Garmin GMA340. To: PS-Engineering PMA8000 Series Audio Panel.
For 20 years, PS-Engineering have been developing and improving audio systems in aircraft. The PMA8000 is designed to slide right into the existing tray of your GMA340, and gives you so much more for it. With a front audio jack, internal MP3 recorder and the recent addition of Bluetooth capabilities, the PMA8000 is a great upgrade for anyone wanting to get more from their audio panel. Added to this are the Special Function Keys, allowing many options with regards to who can hear what through their headphones. For example, everyone can hear the intercom and music, but only the pilot will hear and send on the radio. This unit is EASA & FAA approved.
Upgrade From: Bendix King KT-76A. To: Trig TT31 Mode S ADSB Transponder.
With the CAA’s constantly changing desisions on what will be happenning with mode S, there can be nothing better than an easy way to upgrade to meet the requirement. The TT31 slides into the existing KT-76A tray, locks in place and you're ready to go. With the simple to use software you can be flying with mode S in a very short time. Also Trig have been clever enough to cover nearly all types of EASA aircraft with their own minor mods, making the paperwork element very small.
Simple upgrades
Upgrade from: Bendix King KMA24 with external intercom. To: PS-Engineering PMA7000B Audio panel and Intercom.
The first in our simple upgrades is the PMA7000B. This classifies as simple as it requires more work than just removing one unit and replacing it with another. With the PMA7000B the tray will need to be replaced because the KMA24 only has one plug, whereas the PMA7000B has two. The second plug on the PMA7000B is for the intercom. As most installations of the KMA24 had a separate intercom if you wanted to use this feature of the PMA7000B a rewire would be required. By comparison to fitting an entirely new system, rewiring the intercom to the PMA7000B is a simple bit of work.
Upgrade from: Any MFD, EX500 or Radar CRT. To: Avidyne EX600.
Imagine taking your old, worn out radar display and giving yourself a fully GPS-linked moving map with VFR & IFR Charts and the ability to display your existing radar on screen. Couple that with a lighting & traffic sensors and you have full situational awareness. The EX600 gives you a massive capability and with the current offers from Avidyne they will even buy back your old CRT. If you don't have radar then you can use the MLX770 Datalink weather to provide radar-like display on your screen.
So there we have our selection of Easy or Simple upgrades. If you want any more information on any of these products please call on +44 (0)1452 855501.
