Garmin GMA 350

One of Garmin's most advanced audio panels

The latest audio panel from Garmin is a highly sophisticated unit bringing a wealth of new technologies to your cockpit, such as 3D audio processing, voice recognition, advanced auto squelch, ambient noise based volume adjustment and more! The GMA 350 is designed to reduce the workload of the pilot at the same time as increasing their situational awareness. And as the unit is pin compatible with Garmin’s 340, as well as many other audio panels, upgrading to this new technology is a simple process.

Advanced Voice Recognition

Garmin’s GMA 350 features an advanced voice recognition feature that allows the pilot to control the majority of audio panel functions with simple speech commands. No more fiddling with buttons and knobs as you fly; if you want to select COM 1 or COM 2 all you need to do is press the push to command button and speak the phrase “COM 1” or “COM 2” as needed.

Virtual 3D Sound

The three dimensional spatial processing included within the Garmin GMA 350 essentially copies the way that people process conversations. Human’s have the innate ability to concentrate on one conversation, despite additional chatting occurring around them. Garmin have capitalised on this human trait by simulating sound in 3D using stereo headsets, making it much easier to focus on the information source that you need right now. This means that you could be hearing Air Traffic Control updates on your left side and Weather updates on your right.

Audio Distribution

Another new feature to be added to the Garmin GMA 350 is that of a “blue-select” mode that allows a pilot to distribute appropriate audio to the passengers and crew accordingly, by controlling what audio goes to what headset. This means that your passengers can comfortably listen to music through an MP3 player or mobile phone connected via the 3.5mm jack on the front panel, or even from an auxiliary music device connected to one of two dedicated input sources. All while you listen to those all important radio communications. Additional toggle keys can also be wired for your passengers, removing the requirement to tap the pilot on the shoulder to open a channel of communication between the two.

Auto Squelch Technology

The GMA 350 won’t cut words out of the middle of phrases as it automatically adjusts the volume based on the noise within the cockpit. With its internal microphone constantly monitoring ambient noise, the speaker volume will be adjusted appropriately, as will the volume within headsets if configured on installation.

Additional Features

Other features to be enjoyed within the Garmin GMA 350 include an automatic digital voice recorder that will constantly capture the last 2.5 minutes of audio, allowing you to playback any ATC call or frequency assignment that you might have missed. As well as a split-COM mode allowing the pilot to use COM 1 while the co-pilot uses COM 2, and five audio alert inputs for connection to external warning tones.
